How to Create a Service Year: A 7-week virtual workshop

Next Session Fall 2016!

Do you work for a not-for-profit that is interested in creating a service year position for recent graduates?

Do you have questions about workers compensation, housing and supervision?

Join other not-for-profits in our 7-week How to Create a Service Year pilot program.  We have been collecting wisdom and research from some of the best programs in the country (and abroad). The workshop covers logistical concerns ranging from liability insurance to securing stipend coverage. We also explore supervision and mentorship techniques as well as how to create successful job descriptions and set clear expectations between the organization and the service year participant.

The class will meet over conference call every Thursday morning from September 24, 2015 to November 5, 2015 from 8:30am-10:00am PDT. The first half of every class will focus on strengthening the programmatic areas of hosting a long-term volunteer and the second half will focus on logistics.

This course has really given a strong foundation for how to build a powerful, inspiring, long lasting and fun service year program. The readings, connections to other orgs, and what is happening in our communities around service was enlightening and very informative. So excited to put all of what I have learned into play!
